R3 Sciences Begins Construction on Micro Plant Gas To Methanol Process

February 27th, 2010 by Alternative Energy Foundation

R3 Sciences begins construction of its innovative gas to liquids processing system. Scientists at R3 Sciences have developed a cost effective micro-plant gas to methanol process capable of turning stranded and flare natural gas into a valuable methanol product.

(Vocus/PRWEB ) February 27, 2010 — R3 Sciences announced today that they are building a commercial scale, skid mounted gas process system capable of producing up to 500,000 gallons per year of methanol. The R3 Sciences methanol production system is the first of its kind to employ several key advancements in micro-plant and gas-to-liquid technology. This gas-to-methanol micro plant represents the culmination of several years’ work by both internal as well as external research team at R3 Sciences.

A world bank review states that “over 5.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas are wasted annually” which equals about 25% of the United States total gas consumption. This gas flaring releases over 400 million tons of greenhouse gases as carbon dioxide annually. Read the rest of this entry »

Soybean Genome Mapping, New Soy Products Aid in Sustainable Agriculture

February 24th, 2010 by Alternative Energy Foundation

Completing the soybean genome sequence map – a team effort the U.S. farmer-driven United Soybean Board supported – has already yielded new discoveries.

(PRWEB) February 24, 2010 — Completing the soybean genome sequence map – a team effort the U.S. farmer-driven United Soybean Board supported – has already yielded new discoveries, among them:

  • Ways to make soybeans grow in the most extreme climates around the world.
  • Ways to make soybean oil a better and sustainable ingredient for biodiesel.
  • Helping to make our energy sources, like the U.S. agriculture system, as sustainable as possible.

The United Soybean Board, a U.S. soy research and promotion group representing the nearly 600,000 soybean farmers across the country, supported the soybean genome mapping project, spanning several years and published recently in the journal Nature. Read the rest of this entry »

Albeo Lights Up Thomas Jefferson, First All-LED School in the United States

February 22nd, 2010 by Alternative Energy Foundation

Albeo Technologies Inc. lights up the first school in the United States to be entirely lit with white-LED Solid-State Lighting (SSL) technology. The LED lighting retrofit at Thomas Jefferson will reduce the school’s lighting energy load by 49% and eliminate approximately 1.76 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over the next ten years.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) February 22, 2010 — Albeo Technologies Inc., a leading LED lighting manufacturer, supplied LED lighting to the first school entirely lit with white-LED Solid-State Lighting (SSL) technology. Thomas Jefferson Primary School in Peoria IL is undergoing extensive reconstruction to repair damage caused by fire in November of 2008. Included in the renovation is the replacement of over 600 T12 fluorescent fixtures with Albeo’s dimmable T8LED Troffers. Based on Thomas Jefferson’s conditions, the retrofit will reduce the schools lighting energy load by 49% and eliminate approximately 1.76 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over the next 10 years.

With direction from the Board of Education, Dave Ryon, District #150’s Director of Capital Programs, specified LED lighting for the Thomas Jefferson School project because of the benefits and sustainability of solid-state technology. “Installing low energy, low maintenance, dimmable LED lighting systems accomplishes three goals,” said Ryon. “They reduce operating costs of the school, they provide quality illumination for the students, and, they help teach the students the importance of sustainable building. No other lighting technology can provide such a complete solution.” Read the rest of this entry »
